I have seen brands become expensive before they become clear. A name is chosen, a logo is made, a website is built and content begins. Then the difficult questions arrive: Who is this really for? Why is it different? What should it cost? What must the customer feel?
Start with the position
A position is a choice. It defines the customer, the category you want to belong to, the alternative you want to be compared with and the value you want people to recognize. If the position is vague, every later decision becomes subjective.
Build the offer around the promise
The product or service has to prove what the brand says. Features, materials, process, price and delivery all create perception. A premium identity cannot rescue an offer that behaves like a commodity.
Make every signal agree
Name, identity, imagery, website, retail and customer experience do not work separately. Together they teach people what the brand is worth. The work is to make them tell the same story.
Design the launch after the system
A campaign creates attention. A brand system makes that attention useful. Before launching, decide what people should understand, what proof they need and what action they should take next.
A brand starts when business choices and customer perception begin moving in the same direction.
The category can change. The sequence does not: define, align, express and deliver.
